Preserve the best of Wareham in a more sustainable way

We are a not for profit group of volunteers who are keen to enable residents and local businesses to move towards a more sustainable lifestyle. We look for ways to help people make a real difference by improving our abundant natural spaces, reducing waste, promoting reuse and recycling, sustainable tourism and renewable energy.

Current projects include:-

Rethinking Rubbish
Reduce the amount of household waste sent to landfill. We do this by informing local people about items that can be recycled (but are not currently collected by Dorset Council), and where to take such rubbish.

Renewable Energy
We aim to collect information concerning renewable energy from government and councils, together with best practice from research organisations.  We want to help local businesses and residents to turn good intentions into actions to heat and light their homes and premises, and make transport choices that will allow them to act more sustainably.

Sustainable Tourism in Wareham
Wareham thrives on visitors to the town. However, the extra people can mean more litter, waste and traffic. The ecotourism group mounts projects to ensure we continue to encourage visitors to support local businesses and enjoy the beauty of Purbeck and Wareham, while mitigating the burdens that can be placed on local residents and the environment.

Enhancing Nature
Wareham lies next to the most biodiverse area of the UK.  We want people of all ages and knowledge levels to have the chance to engage with the nature around us.  Anything from taking part in a guided walk or wildlife survey to keeping an eye on a young tree.  Our aim is to promote practices which are sustainable, including tree and hedge planting and encouraging plants which attract pollinating insects – it’s also about planning for the right tree/plant in the right place.

We always welcome people’s ideas and you are welcome to come to our regular monthly planning meetings – next one 24th May. – contact us for more info.
