Now in their fifth decade of working together, David Hepworth & Mark Ellen, are two of the nation’s most experienced music writers, broadcasters, and podcasters. They will be looking back on the pop stars they have met, the magazines they have run, the rock bands they have toured with. Plus the TV shows they’ve fronted and the gossip they couldn’t possibly have printed at the time!
Their unique one-man show promises two gentlemen in their anecdotage who touch on everyone from the Beatles to the Barron Knights, from Led Zeppelin to Lady Gaga and traverses the short distance between Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich.
The evening will be an audio-visual tour through all our musical yesterdays from the fifties to the present-day. It will be full of insights – gained from first-hand encounters with icons and fly-by-nights. The night climaxes with a truly daft audience participation pop quiz which proves that they have always been able to see the funny side.
About David Hepworth and Mark Ellen
David Hepworth and Mark Ellen have been talking about, writing about, broadcasting about and, most importantly, laughing about pop music for five decades.
They first came together in the early 80s on the world-changing magazine Smash Hits. They went on to launch, run and write for many other memorable magazines including Q, Empire, Mojo and The Word.
They have also been presenters of the BBC’s legendary rock music programme The Old Grey Whistle Test. They were two of the presenters of the corporation’s coverage of the Live Aid concert, which was forty years ago in 2025.
David Hepworth and Mark Ellen have continued their activities in the sphere of podcasts with their ;Word In Your Ear’ which they began in 2006.
