Free digital support relaunches for Wareham residents at the library
Residents in Wareham can access free, friendly help to get online and improve their digital skills, as Dorset Council relaunches its Digital Champion support sessions at the local library.
The relaunch aims to raise awareness of the support available and reach more residents who could benefit. Recent engagement at the Purbeck Primary Care Network Carers Event highlighted how valuable the sessions can be — and how little known they still are. As one Digital Champion noted, “What stood out for me was how unaware everyone was of the weekly library DC sessions.” By renewing focus on promoting the service and building on local partnerships, the council hopes more people will take advantage of the free help available at Wareham Library.
Sessions at Wareham Library
Based at the library, the sessions offer one-to-one help from trained volunteer Digital Champions, supporting people to build confidence with technology and make everyday tasks easier.
The relaunch also comes at a time when more services are moving online, meaning digital skills are increasingly important for staying connected and independent.
The sessions are open to anyone who may feel less confident using digital devices. Whether someone is completely new to the internet, struggling with a particular issue or simply looking to build their skills, tailored support is available in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
Help with everyday tasks
Digital Champions can help with a wide range of everyday tasks, including booking GP appointments online, applying for benefits, managing emails, accessing council services and staying safe online. They can also support people to keep in touch with family and friends through digital platforms.
For many, gaining these skills can make a real difference – helping to save time and money, reduce the need to travel and open up access to essential services and opportunities.
