Forest Holme Hospice Charity has received a generous £90,000 grant from the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation, which will help support its vital Hospice at Home service across Poole, Wimborne and the Isle of Purbeck.

Hospice at Home provides specialist end-of-life care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, giving local people the choice to spend their final days at home, surrounded by the people, pets and familiar surroundings that mean the most to them.

The service can also help prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, allowing patients to receive specialist care in the comfort of their own home.

The dedicated Hospice at Home team provides a wide range of support, including medication administration, syringe driver reviews, emergency medication collection, psychosocial support and coordination with other community services.

The £90,000 grant will make a significant contribution towards the annual cost of delivering the service and help Forest Holme continue providing compassionate, specialist care to local patients and their families when they need it most.

The funding application was supported by Matt Smith of Twelve Wealth Management and Roger Carey of Carey & Co Financial Solutions, who acted as St. James’s Place introducers, drawing on their involvement with Forest Holme and personal connections to the charity.

Roger said:

“It has been a privilege to support Forest Holme’s application, and we are delighted that this £90,000 grant will make such a difference within the local community.”

Matt added:

“Forest Holme has a very personal significance for me, as my mother received such wonderful care towards the end of her life. I’m delighted this grant will help more local people and families benefit from that same level of care.”

Sara Fripp, Fundraising Manager at Forest Holme Hospice Charity, said the grant would make a real difference to the charity’s work.

“We are incredibly grateful to the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation for this generous £90,000 grant, and to Matt and Roger for their support.

“Hospice at Home gives people the choice to spend their final days at home, surrounded by those they love. Funding of this scale makes a huge difference and will help us continue providing specialist care and support to local patients and their families.”

Forest Holme Hospice Charity funds services and enhancements to NHS provision at Forest Holme Hospice and in the community. The charity helps ensure that local people affected by life-limiting illness and bereavement can access the care and support they need.

Forest Holme Hospice provides palliative and end-of-life care and support to more than 1,500 people each year across Poole, Wimborne and the Isle of Purbeck. The hospice is part of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, but the charity needs to raise around £1 million each year to help provide the highest level of care for local patients and their families.

The charity relies on support from local individuals, businesses and community groups to continue its work.
