Holme celebrates 10 years of the gardens being open to the public
10 Years of landscaping, growth, beauty, and nature
This year marks a very special milestone for Holme as we celebrate 10 wonderful years since Simon and Liz Goldsack first opened the gardens to the public.
Over the past decade, the gardens have grown and flourished into a much-loved place to visit, offering beautiful seasonal displays, peaceful surroundings and plenty of opportunities to simply slow down and enjoy nature.
Where it all began at Holme for Gardens
Although the Gardens are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, the early foundations of the layout can be traced back to 2010, with the planting of the Cloister Garden.
2011 was a busy year, with the creation and planting of the Pink and Purple Borders, the Orchard – home to 160 varieties of apple tree – and a firm visitor favourite, the Pear Tunnel, featuring 30 different varieties.
The Events Lawn followed in 2012 and was originally used to host weddings. Since then, features have continued to be added and adapted, gradually creating the gardens you see today.
From fruit farm to gardens
Many of you may remember Holme before the gardens opened. For many years, Holme operated as a Pick Your Own Fruit Farm, with strawberries, raspberries, tayberries, gooseberries and currants among the produce grown here.
In 2016, Simon and Liz made the difficult decision to close the fruit farm and instead open the area as Holme Gardens. At the time, however, it looked very different from the gardens visitors enjoy today.
Over the years, the landscape has continued to evolve, with new planting, features and ideas helping to shape Holme into the special place it has become.
Celebrating ten years!
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has visited, supported us and shared in the gardens’ journey over the years.
As we look back on ten memorable years, we also look forward to welcoming familiar faces and new visitors alike to enjoy everything the gardens have to offer for many years to come – and to discovering what Simon has in store for the future…
