The busy Beehive of Wareham opens for business!
Wareham’s high street has a vibrant new addition on the corner of West Street, where the doors have opened on The Beehive, a takeaway venture from local entrepreneur Richard Garrett, owner of the popular Garden Gate Tea Room.
“I love Wareham and the wonderful sense of community here,” Richard told Love It Local. “It’s about more than opening another business — it’s about contributing to the place I care about and helping keep the high street busy and welcoming.”
A hive of industry
The name reflects the business’s purpose-built kitchen, designed as a central hub for all its baking. Andrea, affectionately known by staff as the “Queen Bee,” leads the team. “Like a real hive, it takes teamwork, dedication and shared passion,” Richard said. While the Tea Room offers relaxed dining, The Beehive focuses on speed and convenience.
Freshness and Quality
Fresh ingredients arrive daily, something Richard says makes a real difference to taste and overall experience. The menu features filled rolls and sandwiches, jacket potatoes, soups, pastries, and hot and cold drinks, with hot baps, daily specials, and expanded breakfast options coming soon. Gluten-free, vegan, and dairy-free choices are also available.

Local events
Richard and his team also regularly hosts themed afternoons which have proved popular with local people. This year they are already planning a special tribute event featuring both Elvis and Freddie Mercury, as well as a fantastic tribute night celebrating Robbie Williams. “We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone along — they’re always great fun!” Richard told us.

A busy team at The Beehive
The team also provides outside catering for parties, wakes, and local functions, tailored to fit any occasion.Â
“I’m incredibly proud of my team” Richard added “they truly are the heart of everything we do. They’ve built genuine relationships with our customers and always go the extra mile to look after them, which keeps people coming back again and again”

Time off?
Being an entrepreneur while raising a young family keeps him busy, but Richard still makes time for family life whenever he can. “Running two businesses definitely keeps me on my toes, but I do try to carve out some time off when I can”
Now the new Beehive is ready to save locals time and convenience with quick breakfasts or easy lunches on-the-go, so be sure to stop by and say hello to one of Wareham’s newest independent businesses. You will find them at: 1 west street , Wareham, BH204JS
