Wareham Mayor to take charity Skydive plunge for local Air Cadets!
Wareham Mayor Charity skydive will take place on the 27th April. Councillor Marian Cotton, Mayor of Wareham, is jumping out of a plane at 10,000 feet to raise money for her chosen charity, the local branch of RAF Air Cadets.
On Sunday, 27th April, she will be taking the plunge at Old Sarum Airfield. Marian told Love It Local magazine “Iʼm raising £1,000 to Support the Wareham Air Cadets. The money I raise will help fund a training flight simulator to enhance their skills!
“My mission?’ Marian added is to “help them get their hands on some much-needed equipment. This simulator will take their training to the next level. It will make their experience more exciting, hands-on, and stimulating for all the Cadets.”
“This isn’t something they can easily achieve through their own fundraising efforts. This is why I’m thrilled to support them during my Mayoral year. With your help, we can make this happen!”
To support the Marian’s charity Sky Dive you can donate via her JustGiving page. Every donation counts and goes straight toward this incredible cause. The link to the Just Giving page is: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/councillor-marian-cotton-mayor
RAF Air Cadets: Promoting aviation in all its forms to local youngsters
By Flight Lieutenant R J Whincop RAFAC Officer Commanding 2185 (Isle of Purbeck) Squadron
RAF Air Cadets (RAFAC) provides many opportunities for young people aged between year eight (school) and nineteen. 2185 (Isle of Purbeck) Squadron covers the area roughly equivalent to the old Purbeck Council conurbation.
Although we are parented by the Royal Air Force, our primary objective is to promote an interest in aviation in all its forms. To achieve this, we use a combination of academic studies, leadership training, adventure training, STEM activities and visits to RAF stations.
RAFAC offers Air Experience flights in both powered aircraft and gliders, to prepare our Cadets for this experience we use flight simulators at Squadron level to instruct the basics of aircraft handling.
Wareham Mayor Charity Skydive will help raise funds for a new simulator
The fundraising carried out on behalf of the Squadron by Mayor of Wareham, Councillor Marian Cotton will allow us to design and build a new flight simulator. This is going to be run as a project for the Cadets to complete and will provide the Squadron with a much-needed extra system that will be more portable than our current one.
Through discipline, unique experiences and knowledge gained, our Cadets develop into aviators and pick up lifelong friends along the way.
